Background

eCourse in Research Methodology (RM) is a six-month eLearning programme for health, medical and development professionals. The course has been developed by the Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar (IIPHG). The course has evolved through a series of short-term programs in research methodology that IIPHG has been offering since 2008. The course will be taught by a multidisciplinary team from IIPHG and colleagues from other institutes of the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI).

Aims and Objective

To build the research capacities of young professionals and researchers from the fields of public health, development, medicine and allied sectors to foster a spirit of critical enquiry. To support health, medical, management and social science students, research scholars and professionals involved in research as part of their academic requirements or professional engagement. To meet the needs of researchers who are in the process of developing their research proposals, acquiring skills of data collection, analysing their data, and those aiming to get their studies written and published. To address the needs of faculty members and other professional involved in guiding, reviewing and evaluating research studies.

Eligibility

Any graduate with functional level knowledge of English and use of computers is eligible for this course.The course will be useful to students pursuing MD, DNB,MPH, MPhil or PhD programs; graduates from different systems of alternative medicine such as; paramedical sciences inclined to take up public health as a career professionals working in teaching, research; consultancy agencies in medicine, health and development sectors,clinical and marketing research. Limited prior knowledge of research would be useful.

Course Content

Five modules : 1. Introduction to research methods 2. Quantitative research methods 3. Data analysis and presentation of data 4. Qualitative research methods 5. Writing and managing research

Teaching & Training Methodology

Being an eLearning course, the program will be based on a combination of weekly online lectures (asynchronous), interactive discussion board, electronically submitted assignments, and term exams supported with recommended readings from journals and books and interactive sessions with faculty

Evaluation

Evaluation will be through online based written assignments, short tests, module exams & participation in online interactive sessions
